From Naples International Airport Capodichino (NAP), Salerno can be reached by taxi, private transfer, or direct bus services. Another option is to reach Naples Central Station using the Alibus shuttle service and then take a train to Salerno.
Through the Unico Campania app it will be possible to conveniently buy bus and train tickets.

From Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport (QSR), the city centre of Salerno can be reached by bus, taxi, or private transfer.

  • Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport: approximately 20 km from Salerno
  • Naples Capodichino Airport: approximately 60 km by car from Salerno

Several bus companies, including SITA SUD, Busitalia, Marozzi, FlixBus, and Express Bus, provide direct connections between Naples Capodichino Airport and Salerno city.
Busitalia Campania offers a service (Salerno Airlink) that connects Salerno Airport Costa d'Amalfi and Cilento with the center of Salerno and vice versa.

A taxi can be booked through the official Radiotaxi Salerno service, available 24 hours a day.

Salerno is easily accessible by road. Below are the main motorway routes:

  • From Northern and Central Italy: Take the A1 Milan–Naples motorway until the Caserta Nord exit, then continue on the A30 Caserta–Salerno motorway (exit at Fratte/Salerno Centro). Alternatively, take the route A1 → A3 Naples–Salerno, with exits at Vietri sul Mare or Salerno;
  • From Southern Italy: Take the A3 Salerno–Reggio Calabria motorway (exit at Fratte/Salerno Centro). Alternatively, take the Pontecagnano exit and continue towards Fratte/Tangenziale (from the Industrial Area exits towards Fratte).

Please note: some central areas of Salerno may be subject to Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL) or have limited parking availability. If travelling by car, the use of public car parks or private garages is recommended.

The coastline is served by the A3 motorway along the stretch between Salerno and Battipaglia, by the SS 18 state road up to Agropoli, by the SS 267 and SP 15 towards Castellabate, as well as by the SP 417 “Aversana” and the SP 175, which runs along the coast from Salerno to Paestum.


Salerno Central Station is well connected with the main Italian cities through high-speed train services (Freccia/Italo) as well as regional trains. From Naples, Salerno can be reached in approximately 25–40 minutes, while direct connections from Rome take around 1.5–2 hours, depending on the type of train service.

Land connections to and from the city of Salerno are provided by the transport company SITA Sud.

Local and extra-urban public transport services are operated by Busitalia Campania. Timetables vary depending on the route and the time of year. Bus tickets must be purchased before boarding at newsstands, tobacconists, and authorised retailers. Since June 2018, Busitalia Mobile Ticketing has also been available, allowing passengers to purchase tickets directly via mobile phone (for supported mobile network users).

Connections to and from Salerno are provided by the ferry companies Travelmar and Alicost.
The Port of Salerno can also be reached by sea thanks to services offered by Grimaldi Lines and GESCAB:

The Salerno Metro connects the Central Station with the Arechi Stadium / San Leonardo Hospital area (M8) along a route of approximately 5.7 km, with five intermediate stops:

  • M4 – Via Robertelli / Torrione
  • M5 – Via R. Cocchia / Pastena – Q. Europa
  • M6 – Mercatello / Santa Maria a Mare
  • M7 – Arbostella / Salerno Mare
  • M8 – Ospedale / Stadio Arechi

The service provides a fast and convenient connection between the city centre, the eastern neighbourhoods, and some of the main coastal areas.

Metrò del Mare - Cilento routes

The Metrò del Mare is a seasonal maritime transport service designed to explore the Cilento Coast and the Amalfi Coast, with hydrofoils and fast vessels operated by Alicost. It offers an alternative to road traffic, allowing travellers to move between ports and seaside destinations while enjoying scenic coastal views. It is ideal for day trips or panoramic transfers during the holiday season.
