It follows ancient paths historically used to transport salt from the Tyrrhenian coast towards the mountainous inland areas.
Today, the trail retains a strong historical and cultural identity, crossing river valleys, hilly landscapes, traditional agricultural areas and forest environments of remarkable natural value.
