Day 1 – Taste, history and tradition

The morning begins with the aromas of a historic pastry shop in the city centre. The breakfast ritual celebrates local tradition: the Scazzetta del Cardinale, with its sponge cake soaked in maraschino liqueur, or the fragrant Apolline, offer the first encounter with Salerno’s culinary identity.
The journey continues through medieval alleyways to the majestic Duomo di Salerno. Here, the intensity of the quadriportico and the Baroque splendour of the Cripta di San Matteo provide a moment of reflection before returning to the pleasures of local cuisine. Among the traditional shops and restaurants of the historic centre, lunchtime becomes an opportunity to discover the flavours of the region: milza imbottita (stuffed spleen), totani con patate (squid with potatoes), alici “mbuttunate” (stuffed anchovies), the classic scialatielli ai frutti di mare (fresh pasta with seafood), or the “cuoppo” di pesce fritto (a paper cone of fried fish, a typical Salernitan street food).

📌 For an even closer connection with the local land, visitors can take part in a cooking class at local farmhouses, where the secrets of centuries-old recipes are passed down through hands-on preparation and final tastings.

In the afternoon, historic wine bars open their doors to the wine culture of Campania. A glass of Aglianico, Fiano dei Colli di Salerno or Falanghina, accompanied by selections of local cured meats and cheeses, can be followed by an optional visit to the Museo Virtuale della Scuola Medica Salernitana, which preserves the thousand-year-old connection between herbs, health and nutrition.

Sunset invites visitors to stroll along the Lungomare Trieste. Between the sea breeze and the greenery of the Villa Comunale, there is time for an artisan gelato or lemon sorbet before ending the day with a gourmet dinner that transforms seasonal products into true works of gastronomic art.

Day 2 – Culture, landscapes and flavours

The second day begins in the peaceful atmosphere of the Giardino della Minerva. In this ancient botanical garden, one of the oldest in Europe, visitors can wander among medicinal herbs and rare plants, enjoying a regenerating break in the internal herbal tea room, where infusions reveal the aromas of locally grown organic plants.
Climbing towards Castello Arechi, the view opens over the entire gulf. The surrounding area is ideal for an authentic lunch in a farmhouse restaurant, where traditional home cooking enhances zero-kilometre ingredients.

Option 1: In the afternoon, the journey continues towards the contemporary side of the city at Porto Turistico Marina d’Arechi. This “village on the sea” represents Salerno’s modern identity: an architecture extending over the water, where relaxation and design meet. The perfect conclusion is a sunset aperitif among the marina’s lounge bars, followed by a refined dinner with a sea view. Here, Mediterranean flavours are elegantly reinterpreted, bringing the gastronomic journey to an end in an atmosphere of extraordinary charm.

Option 2 (winter): In the afternoon, the journey moves into the authentic historic heart of the city. Among ancient alleyways and artisan workshops, visitors are immersed in the magic of Luci d’Artista, which transforms the city into an open-air museum. The ideal conclusion is a walk through the illuminated squares, warming up with a hot chocolate or a typical Christmas dessert, followed by dinner in a characteristic traditional restaurant in the historic centre. Here, the aromas of tradition and the rich flavours of winter create a welcoming and unforgettable experience, ending the journey in an atmosphere of warm conviviality.
