The history of Il Cannito has its roots in centuries of history and tradition. Founded as a Basilian monastery in the 12th century, the complex gradually transformed over time into a country residence, until it was restored by the Garga family while preserving its historical and architectural identity.
Today, Il Cannito is a place where past and present meet, enhancing the essence of the Cilento area and keeping the connection with local traditions alive.
The complex is also linked to the personal history of the owners’ family: it was precisely here that the parents of the current owners met for the first time, in a setting characterised by the presence of an ancient oak tree, the tranquillity of the surrounding nature and the atmosphere of the old monastery.
After around forty years, the property was restored by the family with the aim of recovering and preserving the historical value of the site, keeping intact the charm of its ancient walls and the authenticity of its spaces.
Today, Il Cannito continues to preserve its bond with its past through an atmosphere shaped by memory, tradition and a deep connection with the territory.
