The Wild Sea of Cilento
Day 1 – Punta Tresino
The adventure begins at Punta Tresino, one of the most pristine stretches of the Cilento coastline, suspended between Agropoli and Santa Maria di Castellabate. In this realm dominated by Mediterranean scrub and the flight of birds of prey, silence is interrupted only by the sounds of nature. Accessible almost exclusively on foot, by mountain bike, or by sea, the area reveals small secluded coves such as Spiaggia del Saùco and the Punta Pagliarolo area, where crystal-clear waters invite visitors to stop and relax.
📌 Along the way, the ruins of the village of San Giovanni and ancient watchtowers emerge, once sentinels against pirate raids.
💡The lush vegetation requires an adventurous spirit and suitable footwear.
Day 2 – Punta Licosa
From the port of San Marco di Castellabate, the sea leads to Punta Licosa, the heart of the Area Marina Protetta. Famous for the myth of the siren Leucosia, this location enchants visitors with its rich marine life and a pine forest stretching down to the shoreline. A picnic among the rocks offers the chance to listen to the sound of the sea, while sunset lights up the sky with shades of orange and purple, framing the iconic Isola di Licosa and its lighthouse.
💡In addition to being explored by sea, the headland can be reached via an unpaved trail offering unforgettable views over the Golfo di Salerno.
Day 3 – Capo Palinuro
The third day is dedicated to the majestic beauty of Palinuro. Exploring the promontory is not complete without a boat tour through its karst caves: Grotta Azzurra, Grotta del Sangue, and Grotta dei Monaci offer spectacular plays of light. For relaxation, visitors can choose between the iconic Arco Naturale and the remote Baia del Buon Dormire, a natural amphitheatre of rock and emerald waters accessible only by sea.
📌 The Sentiero della Primula winds along the cliffs, offering breathtaking aerial views of the coastline and the rare Primula Palinuri, the botanical symbol of the Park.
Days 4/5 – Marina di Camerota, Baia degli Infreschi
The seabed of Marina di Camerota is an irresistible destination for snorkelling enthusiasts. Underwater cliffs, caves, and seagrass meadows host a surprising biodiversity. The coastline unfolds like a succession of pearls: from the rocky Cala del Pozzallo to the white-pebbled Cala Bianca, repeatedly voted among the most beautiful beaches in Italy thanks to the contrast between its white stones and the intense blue of the sea. Among the hidden coves of the area, Grotta degli Innamorati and Grotta del Toro stand out, both accessible only by sea.
The highlight of the exploration is Baia degli Infreschi. This natural harbour, nestled in a wild landscape, is a jewel of extraordinary clarity.
📌 The trail starting from Spiaggia di Lentiscelle is a sensory experience through the scents of rosemary and myrtle, reaching the bay after around two and a half hours of walking.
💡The months of May, June, and September offer the tranquillity needed to fully appreciate the essence of this place.
Costa della Masseta and Scario
The journey continues towards Costa della Masseta, a coastal stretch characterised by sheer cliffs and underwater caves. From the seaside village of Scario, small boats take visitors to hidden coves such as Spiaggia della Tragara and Punta Spinosa, where the water takes on deep cobalt shades.
📌 For trekking enthusiasts, the Sentiero della Masseta is a hiking route starting from the Chiesa dell’Immacolata in Scario, offering dramatic views over the Golfo di Policastro.
Day 7 – Sapri
The adventure ends in Sapri, where history meets legend. The “Apprezzami l’Asino” trail is a cliffside walk of around 5 km that once represented the only coastal connection route. Between rocky walls and Mediterranean vegetation, the view extends as far as the statue of the Spigolatrice and the Torre di Capobianco.
💡For exposed sections, trekking shoes and an adequate supply of water are essential.
